Every parent would probably agree with me that knowledge from books is definitely valuable for all ages. However “how to ignite a passion for reading in young kids?” is still a difficult question for all parents.
We would like to share 4 effective ways to help you get your child to love reading.
1. Before children actually learn to read, they learn to recognize pictures, how to hold a book, and how to turn a page. Reading your child’s favorite story with them on a regular basis will help them to develop these essential first skills necessary to confidently explore books. Once they can retell the story, your child will begin to simultaneously point to pictures and follow words. Their ideas and imagination will be expanded day by day.
2. Whether your kids are 6 or 16 years old, let’s introduce your kids to a variety of genres so they can discover their favorites. A friend of mine used to have her kids choose at least one biography, one non-fiction, one fiction, and one book of poetry each time they visited the library.
3. Every child loves to see their favorite story characters come to their real life. Let’s take your child to the theatre where it is an invaluable and enriching experience for any age. Taking them there opens up their mind to new vocabulary, stretches their imagination and transports them into the character’s world, unlocking their potential and new emotions.
4. It features games, songs, and rewards that have been carefully designed to engage kids and keep them motivated. Kids can access some cool reading apps on the web or a mobile device using an iOS or Android app. One of the cool apps should be Epic which provides a plethora of children’s books for all ages. The app asks for parents to create an account, and allows for them to create four profiles for young readers. The visuals and music contribute to a fun learning experience.
